Uh, no. First of all it isn't a 'license' . . . It is a permit. An IDP is simply a translation of your drivers' license - not just a translation but an officially recognized translation of your license which is all that is required by any country I believe and sometimes this erroneously means the IDP, which is one of the ones that is recongnized - there may be others or there may not be - but it is a translation that is required not the IDP is my understanding - that said car rental companies can pretty much do as they wish in the U K or elsewhere - you may need a license that will not be expiring soon however.
