Art Galleries in Paris

Anyone feel like recommending his or her
favorite gallery/s in Paris. I'd like to see some galleries comparable to the ones in Chelsea or Williamsburg. The strange and unusual..cutting edge works. Installation, painting, performance based..i love it all.
If you know the Metro stop that would be great too.
my favotire galleries are the Marmotten, the Rodin and the Picasso galleries. All relatively small and very interesting. I don't know metro stops as I usually walk most places in Paris.

Christine,
I suggest to visit the recently reopened Palais de Tokyo, 13, Avenue du President Wilson, 16th arr., if you're interested in contempary art and installations.
Metro: Alma Marceau or Iena.
Open daily 12:00 PM to 12.00 AM, except Monday.

Forgot to add the Palais de Tokyo's web site:

www.palaisdetokyo.com

Other than that, the Centre Pompidou has some hip art exhibits from time to time as well.

http://www.rendezvousfrance.com/squarts.html
If, in fact you are looking for galleries, not museums as others have assumed, check out the above site. The "art squat" at 59 Rivoli is several blocks east of the Louvre and light years away in all other respects. Do a web search for "art squats+Paris" and you can come up with other articles. It is definitely "cutting edge."

ChristineSF,

There are several funky galleries on the rue genegaud, down to the rue mazarine and dauphine in the 6th, just one block off of the river, metros: St. Michel, Odeon, and St. Germain... I especially like the Mendelson Gallery, he is between Philadelphia and Paris and does great exhibits once a month with his own works and those of visiting and local artists.

Wendy

Christine,

The Marais has lots of wonderful galleries, esp. around the square at the Place des Vosges. We also love some of the galleries in the 6th arrondissement, around Rue Dauphine. Have a great time!

Thanks for all the great suggestions.
I am looking forward to visiting the
Palais, as i just missed it's opening when i was in Paris last year. The website is fun too. It's too bad that my french isn't a little better.
I'll check out all the above ideas.
