We are arriving Venice by car. Where is a good place to park? Has anyone used the Tronchetto Parking Garage? What would be the best way to go to Venice? I heard you can buy a pass for 3 days that allows you to use the transportation system in Venice. Any thoughts or hints would be appreciated.

Hi anitas. You can park in several lots once you get over the bridge. the very first lot(especially) on your right is a tourist trap. Men with walkie-talkies will approach you speaking English and offer you quick transportation to Venice on a private launch. Simply tell them you will usethe vaporetto, which is just as fast and much cheaper. Signs are everywhere. You will also probably want to use the restroom before you depart. If you ask for il cabinetto and you are told "there are none here. Hurry, or you will miss the boat." run the other way. Your trip on a private launch will cost $10-20 E depending on unknown factors. The vaporetto will cost $4 E.. The water taxis are cheap enough, but tickets can be bought at any station. Buon viaggio

I always park in the parking garage at the Piazzale Roma, the end of the road as far as getting into Venice by car. You can even reserve a parking space ahead if you are concerned that the garage might be full. Parking at Tronchetto is a bit cheaper and farther away, but also not bad. It is easy to get to a vaporetto from either place, but I prefer the garage right at Piazzale Roma, where I can simply walk across the street and into a water taxi or vaporetto. Forgot to mention that you can indeed buy a vaporetto pass for 3 days that will be cheaper than individual tickets.

Beware if someone trys to load your luggage onto a cart to help you to the vaporetto. It is again a scam to get you to their "private" transportation. They will take down to the end of a long alley and leave you there. Also beware of leaving anything behind in your car.

We love Venice, but have been scammed there more than anywhere else.

Just to clarify--water taxis are not cheap and you can't buy tickets for them at any station. Water buses (vaporetti) are the ones you buy tickets for--and the 3-day pass is a good deal if you plan to get around the city by vaporetto a lot.
