Arriving late into Gatwick
Where should I stay? We don't get in until 10 pm and are leaving early the next morning for Wye...

Do a search of hotels at Gatwick, you will find plenty in various price ranges. I believe there is an IBIS which is a low cost chain. The usual collection of Hilton's etc. abound.

Stay at a hotel near the airport (done this at other airports, not Gatwick). If you go to

click on book hotels for a list of hotels at the airport and also nearby (there are other websites that would have additional hotels; this site at least gives you a few ideas). I'd get the most comfortable hotel I could afford, and one that has a free shuttle service.

I can't imagine arriving at 10pm at night...I'd want no hassles whatsoever!

That's what I was thinking but it seems a shame to stay out at an airport when you're in London!! Ah well. Hopefully we'll be so exhausted from Rome and Positano that we won't care! Thank you for the advice!

Many B&Bs in Gatwick will pick you up at the airport.

Here are some B&B's used by many.

In the South terminal of Gatwick, the Hilton has the advantage of being physically connected to the can wheel your luggage cart straight into the hotel (after walking down about 1/4 mile of connecting corridors). The Hilton is fine and you should be able to get a fairly decent rate there, either through the Hilton website or by calling direct.

Le Meridian hotel is connected to Gatwick's North terminal. I have no personal experience with this hotel.
