Tedgale-No one is putting the two places in the same class. They are two different places. Although it was nice going to Venice, and I'm glad I had the experience, I just wasn't as enamored by Venice as others are. There are other places in Italy that I much prefer over Venice. But, to each his own. Happy Travels!

I've stayed in some towns even further away from Venice than Treviso and commuted, and also on the Lido. I enjoyed the Lido and the other little towns I stayed in, but my circumstances are different and I have been several times and stayed in Venice several days. If you possibly can, stay in Venice proper for this short visit. Venice really is a place to wander and take the vaporeto up and down the Grand Canal at night. It is magical then.
That being said, Treviso isn't terribly far, so if you absolutely cannot afford to stay in Venice, you can stay late and still wander in the evening. Don't know your price range, but there are some pretty inexpensive hotels near the train station. They aren't fancy, but the ones I've stayed at were clean and convenient. If you can pay cash, they often give a 10% discount. Crazy as it seems, DH & I have often gone without a reservation and, though we had to check out two or three places first, we found a cheap place in October - well, cheap for Venice. When we've been in October, there was some flooding, but still interesting and lovely to be in Venice. We did not need AC, but did need a jacket. |

October can find some rain in the Region of Veneto including in Venice. And sometimes there can be spectacular lightning storms. If you haven never been to Venice before kesnow you would no doubt be happier staying in Venice. If you are familar with Venice staying in Treviso would be fine, the train will take you into Venice in about 30 minutes. If you do that you want to go to the train station in Venice proper which is the Santa Lucia train station. The other train station is in Mestre which is on the mainland.

Thanks to all for the advice and/or information on what you all did! We are actually going to be there for 3 nights, so figure we'll stay in Venice the 1st 2 nights and then head to Treviso for the last day and stay there overnight so that we can spend some time there, as well, and be there for our flight out the next day. I've got to talk to my travel friend to see what she wants to do, also. We both were in Venice for a day trip last year. We both just loved being there and experiencing the uniqueness of the city (not so much the crazy crowds of tourists on the bridges and at the square). I don't feel like we need too much time in Venice, so spending the last day and night in Treviso sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the post letting me know EUROCHEAPO is legit :-) and for the other links. I will def. check them out as well! Thanks again EVERYONE!
