arriving in ports, have your hired cabs or private cars and drivers?

Taking the Grand Med Cruise in July (leaving in a few days for a week in London) first.
Don't like to be on tours with 50+ of my newest and best friends. There will be 4 adults. Have you had success hiring either a cab or an a/c car and driver for touring for a day or even half day. Have you had success doing everything on your own?
Thanks very much.

We always try to hire our own transport . when there is a group of us we go through the ships tours & decide which one we would like to do , the I usually go & ask for a price from taxi & minibus drivers . you have the ship prices to go by ,we usually save 5o% plus you set your own timetable.

Mzz - Many people book independant limo tours rather than joining the cruise tours.

A number of drivers in various ports have been recommended here. If you tell us which ports, I'm sure you'll get lots of recommendations.

Our ports of call are: Starting in Venice, Athens, Kusadasi, Istanbul, Mykonos, Naples, Rome, Florence/Pisa, Marseille, France and ending at Barcelona, Spain. We love to do things on our own. Any hints / recommendations will be very much appreciated. We are leaving the states on Friday so I hope I hear from you soon. Best. mzzmaddie

Alternatively there are public transport alternatives from each of these ports ...

Hope this helps ...

Hi Andy: I am so excited. I did book George's son for Athens. So far, I don't have any other ports booked. I sent out emails for quotations to tourome. I'm not opposed to booking car/driver when we arrive in port and disembark. Have you or anyone else had success doing it this way? Thank you all so much. This helps. mzzmaddie
