Arriving at Charles de Gaulle airport
 

Hello,

A couple of questions about our (2 adults, 2 kids) upcoming travel to Paris. We will be arriving at charles de gaulle airport in the evening. Is there a storage facility at the airport where can store the luggage for a week?

If we do keep the luggage with us, is it convenient and safe to travel with it in the train to central paris? We will be staying in central paris (havent decided on exact hotel and location yet). Or should we take shuttle/bus/taxi instead?

I can't think why you would leave your luggage at the airport for one whole week? Won't you need the stuff that's in the cases?

With 4 people I would take a taxi - about E50 to central Paris and a whole lot cheaper than storing your luggage at CDG for a week. And why not take your luggage with you? Why pack suitcases if you're going to leave them in storage at CDG.

I can't imagine why you would leave luggage at the airport! With 4 people a taxi or a shuttle is your best bet and probably not much more than train RER fare plus a taxi to hotel. A shuittle might work out cheaper as I've been stalled in a cab due to traffic and the meter keeps ticking. I've used ShuttleInter . They meet you with your name on a sign , no need to call on arrival as it is with some other companies.

Paris will actually on our way to Asia where we need to stay for a couple of months. So we are packing stuff for 2 months, which include gifts etc.

However, we will be in Europe for a week or so where we dont need all of the stuff we would be carrying. So we were hoping to store some of the luggage somewhere and only keep a couple of small bags so we are lighter for our travel in Europe.

From Paris, we also plan to travel to Munich and other destinations and wouldnt want to carry around lots of bags in trains etc

I agree with arastro. Ship the stuff you don't immeadiately need. It probably would't be any more expensive than the excess bagge fees you'll have to pay to cart iaround

You can leave luggage at CDG but it is very expensive. Search on the web and you will find the prices, something like 75E a day. We looked into it once and thought the prices so ridiculous we didn't bother.

I would take a taxi with all luggage directly to your hotel or flat. Large taxis are readily available at CDG.

How much would it cost for 4 of us if we take the train to central paris? Speaking of which, how much does the day-pass cost? Does that work on hop-on hop-off buses? I am not sure if thats the right term but I have been told of the buses that run around city center that you hop on to and hop off of anytime.

It will cost about 10E each to catch the train, for four of you, take a taxi. About the same price - give or take 5E - but much more convenient.

Can't help with the hop on hop off bus.

The train may be fine if you have not much luggage. You will undoubtedly also have to do some transfer to get to your final stop--stairs and long correspondances are pretty common at the transfer points. It isn't fun with luggage.
A taxi will be cheaper than a shuttle for 4 people.
The hop on bus is a separate "entity" and not included in a metro/bus ticket.
Pare your luggage down--send the gifts ahead, and anything else you can.

With extra luggage for a long stay, just take a taxi. There are minivan taxis for people with "special needs." The taxi dispatcher is there to size up your group in a flash.

I would budget 60€ for the taxi trip and be grateful for paying anything less, since you will have have some 'per bag' fees and such above the meter rate.

Once you have been in Paris for a few days, you will be able to determine if you feel that you could handle the RER for going back to CDG (4 x 8.70€) -- or maybe you'll discover that you are staying next to the Roissybus stop or one of the Air France bus stops.

It is in French but if you pull down the down the list called Autre you will see Roissy (the airport terminals)as a choice and then you can add your address as the destination

The best buy seems to be the "carnet" of ten one-trip t-tickets that work for metro, bus, and RER train. One ticket is 1.40 euro. A carnet is 10.70.

DKA - your information is out of date. A carnet is E12 and a single ticket is E1.70.

You cannot use a regular metro ticket from CDG to Paris.
