Arrival at airport for MUC to ATL

I was just reading some threads and saw a lot of talk about 3 hour advance airport arrival for flights from Europe to US. We will be leaving Munich for Atlanta on 9/25 at a little before 10AM. Do I seriously need to arrive 3 hours before the flight? I was planning 2 to 2-1/2 hours. I am not checking luggage. Thanks for the help.

It's not the airport but the airline which sets those minimum check-in deadlines. Your airline's website will be the only relevant source for information.

OK--Delta says be checked in and at the gate 60 mins in advance. The Munich airport website says nothing about security wait times. Any suggestions on how to plan my airport arrival?

Delta should be in Terminal 1. Passport control and security can take a bit longer than in T2. But when arriving at the airport 2 hours prior to arrival you should be on the safe side.

Hi B,

>I was planning 2 to 2-1/2 hours. I am not checking luggage.<

At that time of day, you should be all right.

We were just there this past Feb. Ira is right. We were there 2 hours before.

Our general rule of thumb is 2 - 2.5 hours and we've never had any problems. You should be fine.

I fly out of Munich every chance I get just to stay at the Kempinski the night before. They have a very nice wellness center.

I flew MUC - Boston last September and we had to go through 4 separate security checks after going through security. These had long lines and took a long time. I would say 3 hours ahead of your flights departure

I just flew from MUC to IAD on United this past Monday. I had a bag to check and it took less than an hour from arriving at the airport to get to the gate. That included the United check in people asking me who packed my bags and where have they been since the night before (I thought those questions were a thing of the past).

With no luggage to check, 90 minutes should be plenty. Passport control is really quick and there was only 1 security check. That line was less than 5 minutes.

Yes, 3 hours sounds o.k. But I'm the one that usually is pulled out, because of weekend trips with empty luggage.
Very suspicious to them :D. Sorry for the delay :-)

Roger - when we flew out of Brussels last month, we got grilled by the United folks at check in. Not just the who packed your bags and where have they been questions, but they wanted to know what electronic equipment we had, whether it was repaired recently or purchased used from anyone, and a bunch of other things along those lines. Not sure what the deal was - we've never been asked that many questions before.

I was just at MUC for a flight to Philly a week ago - got there 2.5 hours early, which was 1/2 hour more than we originally planned. 2.5 hours was plenty of time, 2 hours would have been plenty too. Of course, this was Sunday am, which is probably a little less crowded than normal. But lines for check-in and security were nearly non-existent. Have a great trip!

We love MUC for ease of arrival/departure. If you arrive 2 hours ahead of departure, you'll have ~1:15 to shop in the secure gate area stores ;)

We have flown DL MUC to ATL four times in 6 years and arrive 2 hours before. We have always had an hour to spare.
