armchair travel courtesy of wuthering heights (latest film)

The critics are writing favourable comments about the latest adaptation of Jayne Eyre's 'Wuthering Heights'. The Independent (UK newspaper) says that it is so close to nature its like being on one long hike. Close to nature it maybe but not close to the location, having been largely filmed in Swaledale - sumptuous nonetheless, and a good (albeit wet) insight into an overlooked Dale by the Lakes.

It's Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights!!
Jane Eyre is by Charlotte Bronte, and the recent film version is very good.
As a Yorkshire local I am looking forwarding to seeing the new Wuthering Heights although the one review I have seen panned it good and proper.
Not sure what you mean by Swaledale being by the Lakes though - it's a Dale in North Yorkshire (just up the road from where I live) and not in the Lake District.

Really? According to googlemaps it's about the same, depending where you go in the Lakes of course. Some places it would be further!

It's actually in Cumbria, although it is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Swaledale covers parts of North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Durham.

I'm surprised that any part of Swaledale is in Cumbria given that the Swale rises on the east side of the Pennines. And I would have though it's a bit too far south to be part of County Durham the southernmost boundary being the A66

The vast majority of it IS in North Yorkshire - no idea why someone seems to think it's all situated in Cumbria!! It's the next Dale up to where I live.
Boundaries can be a bit strange up here though. I've never really understood why Nidderdale is outwith the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

I'm glad that Mrs Rochester had time to write novels in between her domestic duties.
It reminds me of the man who wrote to the College of Heralds for help with his family tree.
