Arezzo Hotel?

I am surprised at the hard time I'm having getting information on Arezzo hotels. Has anyone stayed in Arezzo? Can anyone direct me? My usual sources (this forum; tripadvisor.com and venere) have all been less than helpful. Im really having trouble finding rates and hotel locations.

We won't have a car, and will need to be as central as possible for this quick visit. Thanks

There aren't many hotels in the centro storico area, but here's one, and walkable from the train station.

Thanks for the replies. I will write to both these hotels. We were hoping that Arezzo would not be expensive, but we shall see...

Our room at the Hotel Continentale was adequate for a quick visit (e.g. one night) but not very appealing. It is, however, about a block and a half from the train station and an equal distance from the centro storico and the antiques fair. The hotel recommended a restaurant around the corner that specializes in grilled meats and was a lot of fun, filled with the dealers in town for the fair.

We stayed at the Casa Volpi - www.casavolpi.it. It's not in the centro storico but perhaps about half a mile out - we did have a car, though. We liked it and would stay there again. The room was charming, the grounds were lovely and the food was good. I enquired by e-mail from their website and they responded the next day. It was E90 for a double + E8 pp for breakfast.

Shellio: can you be a little more specific on the hotel? What didn't you like about it? We would be giving up two nights in Rome (where we have spent a good deal of time) to visit Arezzo, see the Piero della Francesca's, and the Antiques Fair.

We will have to stay in a central hotel, thus can not take Caroline's suggestion, but we don't want it to be awful Was the Continentale awful?

thanks, debbie

Debbie, the Continentale wasn't awful by any means. Our room was clean and had the necessary beds, closet, bathroom, etc. but it was small, ugly and somewhat spartan. We were there just overnight for the antique fair and I wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer in the hotel, but I'm picky and tend to be depressed in ugly surroundings. On top of that, the weather was rainy and gray. Arezzo itself made up for it however, and the antique fair was interesting and well worth the stay. Go and enjoy yourself.
