Area codes in England

Can anyone help me by telling me the telephone area codes for Carlisle and Derbyshire in England? Thank you, if so... Jane

MissPrism Apr 13th, 2008 03:12 AM

You'll find them at http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/
Carlisle is 01228
You'll have to be a bit more specific for Derbyshire e.g.
Derby is 01332

MissJane111 Apr 13th, 2008 03:33 AM

Thanks so much MissPrism, I should have said Hadfield, Derbyshire. Thank you for the link. Jane.

I just checked the BT phonebook link, but Hadfield doesn't rate a mention. I know it exists, I've been there! It's where they filmed "League of Gentlemen"... Any ideas? Jane.

01457

Hi, Jane,

hope this helps,

regards, ann

Thanks Ann, you're a star! Why didn't I think of that? It's late here, too late for lateral thinking. Thanks for doing it for me! Jane.

Hadfield Tourist Information Centre
13 Market Place
Derbyshire DE6 1EU

Telephone 01335 34666

Is there more than one area code for Hadfield, Derbyshire?

Sandy

Sandy, the address you gave is for the Ashbourne Tourist Information Centre. Also, 01335 is the STD for Ashbourne.

The BT website is misleading, and I don't think you should rely on it to get the right "area code". Bristol is shown as having the code 0117, but parts of Bristol also have 01275 and 01454 as their code.

BT stopped using exchange and place names some years ago. Most numbers in the UK are of 11 digits. If you are calling from a number with the same prefix, you can omit that part (usually four or five digits). If you are calling from another number, you need to use all 11 digits.

I look up dialing codes on:

http://www.ukphoneinfo.com/section/t...std_list.shtml

That's how I found out 01335 is the STD for Ashbourne.

Note that some of the info on the above website is out of date, but it's still useful.

I don't think Hadfield has its own TIC; I believe the nearest is in Glossop. Glossop Tourist Information Centre - Tel: 01457 855920

Hadfield is Glossop. The area code is 01457.

Hadfield is a local town for local people - they won't want your sort there!

Please do remember to into the "local" shop and if anyone asks if "you are Dave" just run.

Seriously worked in Glossop for four years - could have robbed the HSBC bank in Manchester and my sentence would have been shorter!!!

MissJane111 Apr 14th, 2008 03:41 AM

Mark, the name of the friend we are staying with in Hadfield is DAVE!!!

Thanks to everyone for their kind input, I really appreciate it. Jane.

It is my understanding that, if you are phoning from North America, you always omit the first zero of the area code. Perhaps some others can confirm this

gertie3751 Apr 14th, 2008 06:16 AM

I called Glossop yesterday. I dialed 01144 1457 then the number

missjane

The League of Gentleman was a fly on the wall documentary about life in Hadfield - strange that most people thought it a comedy.

MissJane111 Apr 14th, 2008 06:31 PM

Hello Almcd, if dialling from outside the U.K., you do leave the first "O" off. Jane
