The "Mongibello" scenes were mostly shot on Ischia and Procida - but see the 2nd reply here, for Minghella's interview!
Think you'll find that all three of Rosario Fiorello, Jude Law and Matt Damon do indeed get a credit on the Ripley soundtrack... although at whom the microphone was mostly aimed at isn't stated! Youtube has clips of both versions.... For a long evening, there's always the Burton/Taylor "Cleopatra"... which has Rome (or Cinecittà) playing Rome, and Ischia as all points south and east! Peter |
Hey Peter/Brit: You know, I read and enjoyed the Minghella column when you first posted it, but just reread it after seeing "..Ripley," and I sure got a lot out of it. Great column by Minghella (who died way too soon). Thanks for the link.
I believe Procida served as "Mongibello" in Purple Noon as well? Makes me wish I had scheduled another day in that area. Hmmm ... |
Wife and I finally saw "The Tourist" last night. As a movie it's basically an amusement park ride, fun enough to be sure. Have to say the views of Venice were just stunning. A few things:
- I'll probably never know first-hand what he view from a balcony inside Hotel Danieli is like, but I'm pretty sure you can't see the Rialto Bridge from there, as Johnny Depp does in the movie.Artistic license I guess! - I got a kick out of the recurring schtick where Depp keeps speaking Spanish. Italians must hear that a lot from Americans, given that were hear a lot more Spanish and Italian — to our ears — has some similarities. There was one great exchange where Depp spoke in Spanish and the hotel man responded, "Yes, your Spanish is excellent." |
Brilliant thread! Grazie!
