I wouldn't think anything of it, since my typical mode going to Europe is to take off on Thursday and come home on Monday. It's a nice break and longer duration trips tend to become disruptive to everything else I have going on. If it works for you, then it is nobody else's concern. A little crazy? Sure! Fun, interesting and a totally stimulating thing to do? Something you will remember for the rest of your life fondly? Absolutely! Go for it. You will not be sorry that you did it; only if you didn't. :)

Yep, you're crazy, but you're going to have a GREAT time. You only live once so I think a couple days in another country is a good way to spend 6 days. About 5 years ago I got a flight to London for $250 (including all taxes and fees), we went for 5 days (including travel time) and it was a blast. We met some wonderful people and in general had more fun than we needed to.
Go... enjoy... and let us know how it was when you return! |
Hi Sandy, I hope you and your mom have an awesome trip. BTW, we're going to Rome for 5 days in February and, to some, that's crazy too. Ach well, we're excited and that's really all that matters. Enjoy!

I agree with those who say take your mother to Europe. You don't need anybody's approval. Go before it's too late or one day you may regret. What a beautiful gesture! This is not about seeing all but about old memories and creating new once. Have a great trip

I just want you to know that your post made me think about my parents. My mother always wanted to visit her home town but she and my dad never had a chance to go although they traveled a lot. Then she was diagnosed with cancer. My dad took her to Europe to visit her childhood town. She was 73 when she went on this very short trip because had to return home after a few days for her pending treatment. I am so greatful to my father. Today my dad who is 85 he travels independently to Europe 3-4 times a year. Enjoy every moment of your short trip with long lasting memories.

No, you are not crazy for going for the short time frame. I don't think that in the future you'll regret going. I do think you will regret not finding at least 2 more days to add on.
If there is ANYWAY possible to add more time, do it! I went to Ecuador for business and was "too busy" to add on time for the Galapagos Islands. I've regretted it ever since. I'm not sure what the constraints are on the time. Is it availability for the FF tix? I've found that it works way to call in the middle of the night (2-4 am) to check on FF tix. The call volume is low and agents have taken (what seems like) HOURS to help me find flight combinations. I know I've gotten more suitable flights by not calling during peak booking hours. Just an idea... |
