are two 2.5 full days in tallinn enough/ too much?

we are planning a weekend in tallinn,( sunday, mon, and tuesday a half day) and am wondering if there will be time to explore a bit further out, or if the 2.5 days will be what we need to leisurely see the city of tallin.

any restaurant recs would be appreciated. price no problem for one of the dinners this trip! just good food, and hopefully atmospheric at same time.

thank you.

I've a good friend who's Estonian, and from the said city. She feels that two and a half days will be plenty of time to explore the city which has lots of medieval areas. Also, areas by the sea, and countryside are recommended if you get bored of the city.

I'm afraid that I'm unable to spell the names of the restaurants..I'll see what I can do about that for you.

thanks.. i have seen some recs for restaurants on other threads. am getting excited about this destination. so anything from a local will REALLY be of value.

riga looks too far to do in that time.
but perhaps there is another village nearby that would be of interest if we feel we have time to branch out.

It's a pretty quick ferry ride from Tallinn to Helsinki if you are interested. Tallinn is fairly compact and can be easily experienced in 2.5 days. Take advantage of the open air markets on Sunday (I think they are open on Sunday) for some nice bargains on sweaters, linens, and artwork.

I think 2.5 days are absolutely sufficient. I also agree that a trip to Riga would take too much time.
If you feel ready for a day trip after a day of hitting the cobblestone and hilly streets of Tallinn's Old Town, do consider driving to Pärnu.
It is about a 2.5 hour drive down the coast. Pärnu labels itself of being Estonia's summer capital providing a pretty nice beach and shallow and therefore reasonably warm waters of the Baltic Sea. There is also a nice enough Old Town section, but I thinkk the main attraction is the beach.

Alternatively, the seaside resort of Haapsalu offers some more peace and quiet along with an ancient center of town. Quaint but nice.

thanks for all your suggestions. unfortunately our exciting trip to tallinn has been substituted for also exciting bergamo due to sudden increases in cheap airfares.
i took one day too long to reserve.

but will definitely keep the info for future trip.

thanks. the area probably merits more days than we had this time, anyway!
