Are there tours of Chateau Lafite Rothschild in Pauillac?
I've been to their website as well as some wine websites but can't seem to find any information on tours of this winery? Has anyone been? Is it even open to the public? If so, do they offer tours in English and is there a tasting room or wine shop on the premises?

Thanks for any insight.

I'd like to read some answers to this question also. We're booked into Bordeaux area for September and starting to plan our assault on the wineries.

You can email them from their website (I **think** you can visit with an appointment, but I'm pulling this memory from research two years ago):
http://www.lafite.com/us/chateau/lafite.html

According to information I picked up at the tourist office in Le Bugue two weeks ago, Château Lafite-Rothschild is still not open to the public. For information on wine châteaux open to the public, and to make appointments, you can call the tourist office in Pauillac at (from the USA) 011-33-5-56-59-03-08) or the Maison du Vin in Bordeaux, which can arrange tours for you, at 011-33-5-56-00-22-88.

If anyone wants my file on Bordeaux, which has some practical information including restaurant recommendations, feel free to e-mail me.

Julie, you are right you can mail Rothschild however it's snail mail not e-mail. I'm going in September and so far I haven't had a lot of luck with snail mail being sent overseas. If anyone knows of Lafite's e-mail address please post it because I will gladly contact them.

St Cirq...I'm confused. You say that Lafite Rothschild is not open to the public but then you go on to say that the wine chateau is open and to make appointments through the tourist office. What does that mean? What is the Wine Chateau? Unfortunately I'm only passing through the Bordeaux region so at this time I wouldn't have use for your Bordeaux report. If however you happen have a trip report on Burgundy and specific wineries there I'd be very intested in that!

Does it make any sense to try to find Lafite wines in the Bordeaux region? Would I save any money purchasing them in France opposed to buying them here in the USA?

Thank you!

Robin:

I said "for information on wine châteaux open to the public," meaning if you want information on those wine châteaux that ARE open to the public, contact the Maison du Vin, etc. Lafite-Rothschild is not open to the public, but many others are.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh... Thanks for the clarification.
