Are there Euro Stores in Europe?

Just curious......

Here in the United States, where I live, we have "Dollar Stores" where everything inside for sale costs USD $1.00 each. I love going there to buy dinnerware to set my dining room table (we never eat at the table, it's just seasonal decoration) as well as other "junk".

So I'm curious, are there similar type stores in Europe, and if so where? Our next holiday travel will be to southern and western Germany, so I am particularly interested in these areas.

Peace, Robyn >-

When I was in Ireland several years ago, they had a chain call Pound City. Same idea...

Was that in North Ireland? Surely there wouldn't be a "pound city" in the Irish Republic, would there?

And I guess that means that everything does cost almost double what it would be at a Dollar Store?

Just everywhere... Euro Store; just 50 cents; 99ct Store,...

It is just amazing how many things there are, which you don`t need.

Patrick - Yes, it was in the Republic. Before the Euro, they called their money the Irish Pound, at least when I was there.

There is a Pound City in the main shopping street of Galway. I think it is Shop Street.
I was so amused I took a picture.

The main shopping street in Galway really is called Shop Street, and Ireland did use a currency called the pound before the euro.

Euro Stock and Euro Mart are in Italy and France I believe, although they aren't single Euro stores.

The town in Germany I live in has what used to be 99 pfennig store and now it's a 50 Euro cent store. I've seen them in other towns as well. I think the one I saw in Heidelberg was a 1 Euro store.

Poundland in the UK! Amazing what $1.92 will buy over there these days. We usually stock up on cat litter when stop over in route to the Scandinavio becuase our kitty at the BnB we run is name "Mr. French" like the butler on the Family Affairs back in the old days that they uset to put on TVland on the sattlite tv. The cat is named "mr. French" but he had a Britich ascent so we get him British kitty litter just as a surprise each time we go!

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm glad to hear there are Dollar Store equivalents in Germany, and look forward to browsing through one and making comparisons - and perhaps buying some cheap trinkets to bring home. Peace.

Great euro stores in Germany! When the weather turned unexpectedly cold, we stocked up on knit caps, scarves, and gloves at one euro each!
