Are there any guided group sightseeing tours in North Wales
We are not planning on renting a car in Wales. We will be there for four days. Only seem to be able to find private tours with a chauffer and they are priced at 360 gbp for the day. Are they any group tours sightseeing or has anyone hired a local taxi driver for the day? Would you recommend the experience? We are based in Conwy.

I will be in North Wales later this year, also based in Conwy. I will not drive, and I won't take a tour. There is pretty good bus service, plus narrow gauge railways.
Use Rome2Rio to get an overview of your transport options, and follow the links for bus and train timetables.

I spend several days based in Llandudno - right by Conwy and did several neat day trips by train and or bus - very easy to do and very cheap. For train info check www.nationalrail.co.uk for schedules. There was at least when I were there a cheap day pass for buses and trains in that area.
I'm sure there are tours and if you want that type of travel that's great but do not take a tour just because you may not think public transit is so so good. Check www.seat61.com and www.rickstees.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com for lots of info on trains and this area in particular.

In answer to your question, yes there are guided tours of North Wales. Although I've not traveled with them I have heard good things about Boutique Tours . Small groups with 6 passengers. I believe they have a variety of options including half and full day tours.

The advantage of a group tour is that you can of course see more in less time - trains and buses go everywhere but are slow and may require multiple changes - if not in a hurry fine but if you want to maximize your time that's fine.
I found the buses especially enlightening - sitting near the driver I heard locals actually speaking Welsh to the driver upon entering- buses especially are a great way to observe the locals - to me as much of a joy of traveling as castles, museums, etc.

In Conway be sure to go to Llandudno and climb the Great Orme by ancient trams or foot - great views:

No tour or guide needed for this jaunt just a few miles from Conwy.

I don't know if you've priced Celticos; I'd have guessed that they'd be below 360 gbp for the day. You would certainly have a great outing with them.
