Are there any European Greeter programs?

I just read an article in a travel magazine about Greeter programs where someone local will give vistors a short tour of some area of their city. I knew Chicago had one, but now I see that there are similar programs in New York, Jamaica, Japan, Australia, Korea, the Bahamas. There is no charge for these and the greeters are volunteers. (for Chicago check www.chicagogreeter.com) I haven't read about anything similar in Europe but I have been curious to find out if any exist.

May I ask what magazine and issue this was in? I would like to read the article. Thank you.

It's in the Arthur Frommers Budget Travel April 2003. The article is &quot;A Friendly Face, a Helping Hand&quot; It also gives the web addresses or phone numbers of the different organizations.<BR>
