There are a lot of tours. However, I do not see any reason to take one of them to visit Lake Como. It is very easy by public transportation (train). It is cheap, the train are clean and safe. The distance is short.
You can visit also Maggiore lake (go to Stresa and take from there a boat to Isola Bella).

If you still want to take a day tour, below there are two sites which offer day trips, as you want.

You could easily create your own day tour. Take the train from Milan to Varenna (1 hour 6€), catch one of the boats down the lake (stop where you want), ending in Como. Catch the train in Como back to Milan (30-60 minutes, 4-11€ - depending on train).

If you do decide to take the train to Varenna, note that the station is Varenna-Esino. Varenna-esino was an unmanned station when we were there but if you were going back from Como, it would be easier. Get round trip tickets so you don't have to stand in line twice!

Although hub and I became do it yourself-ers with travel, we did take tours when we didn't feel like doing all the ticket schlepping ourselves.

Please let everyone know how it went.
