Are there a good Paris flea market on weekdays?
 

I have been to Paris many times and have never been to the flea market. During our trip in May we have set aside a full day to tour the best market at St. Ouen (Cligancourt). But I just realized we should have arranged our intinerary to see the market on a Saturday. But now it's too late . Unfortunately we are arriving by train on a Monday afternoon (in May).

Are there any other flea markets we could tour on a Tuesday or Wednesday?

Place d'Aligre in the 12th has a daily market from 7:30-1:30 except on Mondays.

But that's a food and drink market, not a flea market.

The City of Paris website lists no antiques markets open mid-week.

But you could keep an eye on

I don't think there is one, by nature, they only tend to be open a lot on weekends because not enough people could come otherwise.

place d'Aligre is not just a food and drink market, it's like any of those markets that have cheap clothing and misc. stuff in addition to food/drink. I don't remember if it had "flea market" type stuff, but it might have a little, but not any high-end or expensive things like you'll find at St Ouen. It really depends what the goal is and what someone wants to shop for. If it's antique furniture or something, I don't think there is any flea market on Tu-Wed. If it's just "junk" more or less, perhaps that could do, but there are also other roving markets with various stuff during the week that I think are nicer than Aligre.

One of the city's most interesting markets, made up of the covered Marché Beauvau (open since 1777) and an open-air market in the surrounding square with produce as well as flea-market stalls. Aligre is both well supplied and typically Parisian. It's a great place to get an insight into life in the capital, and shows off its cosmopolitan side with numerous Asian and North African shops located around the market. Don't get there too late, or you'll find all the good things have gone.

They had piles of 'stuff' when I went there... bought some old sheets of music to use for scrapbook backgrounds... Note: not the kind of merchandise you get at Vanves or St Ouen, junkier (but fun).

Aligre does have "piles" of stuff as noted.

If you are going to be there around the 9th to 15th , there is a marvelous antique/brocante show at Bastille. In addition to the indoor exhibition space ...with high priced goods..both sides of the Seine are lined with tents with very affordable "things"! Do make plans to have lunch at one of the food or wine booths!!

We'll be in Paris May 14-16 (Mon afternoon, Tues and Wednesday). Too bad we won't be in town for the Bastille market. We certainly would not buy furniture but have interest in smaller more transportable goods. I am glad to learn that the Marche d'Aligre is an option but the word "junkier" does concern me. Definitely next trip to Paris will include a weekend!

If the word junk concerns you, don't go to Aligre. JUst don't get your hopes up too high about how great this is going to be, it is basically cheap junk.

We're really talking about stuff taken out of people's closets, drawers, attics, and piled up on tables or spread out on the ground. Really more like what a 'flea market' used to be.
