Are the EU carryon restrictions going into effect?

Are the one bag,56 x 45 x 25 centimeters size limit rules going into effect in April as scheduled? Thanks!

traveller1959 Mar 30th, 2007 08:40 AM

No.

Dukey Mar 30th, 2007 08:57 AM

Why not, Traveller1959?

traveller1959 Mar 30th, 2007 09:02 AM

Why should they?

(The Council of the European Union rejected a proposal from UK)

doug_stallings Mar 30th, 2007 09:31 AM

Not entirely true, traveller1959. The limits were pushed back to November. In fact, these limits WILL go into effect, just not as soon as expected.

milliebz Mar 30th, 2007 11:05 AM

So that means that means that we can have two small carryons?

Kristinelaine Mar 30th, 2007 01:08 PM

I am also interested to know if this means I can carry on a purse AND an appropriate-sized carryon bag in May?

hetismij Mar 30th, 2007 01:13 PM

It depends on your airline, and whether you are going through the UK or not. KLM are stating on their website that only one piece is allowed.

Kristinelaine Mar 30th, 2007 02:23 PM

I'm not going thru the UK. I'm flying on Lufthansa, so I'll look at their website. Thanks.

Dukey Mar 30th, 2007 02:25 PM

Thank you, Mr. Stallings for clarifying this with RATIONALE which is always appreciated.

Is there a website with this information?

Is there a website with this information? I'm particularly interested in CDG to the US.

Here are the Lufthansa rules:

These items you may take into the cabin in addition

In addition to your hand baggage and technical appliances you may take the following items into the cabin:

* A handbag, wrist bag or small bag (or small laptop bag) and their content
* A coat, shawl or blanket
* A small camera or a pair of binoculars
* An appropriate amount of reading material for the journey
* A baby basket and baby food for the flight
* Crutches or other orthopedic aids you are depending on

They are pretty relaxed with these rules. I have never noticed a problem.

Kristinelaine Mar 31st, 2007 05:24 AM

Does Lufthansa weigh every potential carryon and strictly enforce the 8 kg limit?

Madison Mar 31st, 2007 06:46 AM

I just checked the KLM site and those departing the US are allowed one carryon 56x45x25 plus a handbag, umbrella, coat, camera bag. The suitcase cannot weigh over 26 pounds.

Heimdall Mar 31st, 2007 06:51 AM

The current rules can be found on the Heathrow website: http://tinyurl.com/ego9c. I believe these regulations are standard throughout the EU, and went into effect in Nov 2006.

traveller1959 Mar 31st, 2007 07:12 AM

Lufthansa never weighs. Many people (including myself) take 15kg-suitcases onto the plane. And the flight attendants help them to put them into the overhead bins.

traveller1959 Mar 31st, 2007 07:19 AM

Dough Stallings:

Please tell us the source of your information.

I checked both Frankfurt and Düsseldorf airports, the Lufthansa, I googled and I looked up the European Union website - and I could not find anything.

If you have a reference to the decision - to be found in the Official Journal of the European Communities - we are able to confirm that information.

Carlux Mar 31st, 2007 08:23 AM

'Lufthansa never weighs.'

Well, they have weighed mine that's how I found that returning from Cape Town it weighed 7 kilos. However, another time they weighed and it was over 8 kilos and no one objected. So you take your chances.
