Are stores open on Good Friday in Rome?

My kids' school choir trip will conclude in Rome. The itinerary for their last day says, "The afternoon is free for last minute shopping...." That happens to be Good Friday afternoon. I assume the city will be a zoo (esp since their hotel is near the Vatican!) but does anyone know if stores will actually be open?

Yes, stores are open on Good Friday. Although not applicable to your situation, the majority of stores close on the Monday after Easter as it is a national holiday.
