Are shops/venues/restaurants open on election day?

We note that election day in Germany this year is the 22nd of September. Are the shops and restaurants open or closed because of election day? We will be in Loßburg to visit some friends and are hoping we can take them out to dinner. Thanks in advance for your input.

Restaurants wouldn't be.

Stuff will be open.

Please let me clarify. Restaurants should not be closed, they should be open. Gah!

Elections in Germany are always on Sundays and on Sundays shops are closed.

Restaurants and museums are open on the weekend and elections don't make a difference.

What Hans wrote.

If you need to buy something on Sundays, election or not, you are more or less limited to gas stations.
Election day has no relevance for restaurants. There will more or less the same number of people going out for dinner than on any other Sunday.
