Are reservations for Galleria Borghese, Gli Uffizi, L'Accademia and The Last Supper so necessary in September?

The point is, I don't want to get to Galleria Borghese only to be told that I can't get in now but can get in two hours from now. I certainly don't want to stand around waiting for two hours, so that means going somewhere else to do something and then having to come back, so I've wasted the time it took me to get there in the first place. If you have your reservation, you know exactly when you need to be there and don't waste time (unless, of course, there is a torrential downpour with hail that knocks out the electricity in the gallery so they have to close it, as happened to me!

All well and good, my point is only, you don't have to make reservations weeks and months in advance for the Borghese-indeed, if you get there at the right time-you'll be able to pay for your ticket just before the next two hour time slot becomes available.
I keep seeing people on this site obsessing and actually calling over to Italy before they leave in order to get a reservation-thinking they'll never get in otherwise-that's unnecessary-you can call the Borghese (or have your hotel call) when you get to Rome, and thus you can decide when it best suits you and your revised itinerary (you always revise your itinerary once you get there) to make the hike up to the Galleria (because it is a hike-and as for me, I just wasn't that taken with it).

Spygirl,
What precisely is it that bothers you about making an advance reservation?
It costs not a penny more, and you only pay for the ticket when you arrive at the Galleria Borghese. So, if something comes up, you still haven't lost anything financially.
When I was at the Galleria in mid-May, there was a sign saying that that day was completely sold out. Like SusanP, I would not have wanted to hike up there again on another day, even if I had had an additional day, which I did not.
And, incidentally, the fact that you were "not that taken by it" says nothing at all about the importance of the Galleria Borghese collection.

Just spent the weekend with couple we went to Italy with last September. We talked about the Borghese and the four of us were still blown away by the sculptures we saw that day (and that takes something for me). Like Eloise said, there is no downside of reserving in advance for this.

I guess the ticketing policy has changed at Galleria Borghese. They want you to pay the moment you receive the e-mail confirming the availability. The website also says that the date and time cannot be changed once you pay and that they don't give you a refund in case you don't show up. Even if you're late, you have to do a new reservation and pay again.

That is definitely new. I've had a reservation there twice and never had to pay ahead of time. Is this the site you used?

Sorry, I had misunderstood the information on the website.
I don't have to pay in advance I can't have a refund once I have gotten the tickets and payed for them half an hour before.
However, I have to wait until August to do reservations for September. They are only accepting reservations for June and July now.
Thanks everybody again!
