haha, thanks Franco i have to admit to writing while looking at screen rather than keyboard, wish it came up with spell check option...although i guess it would have to be some universal one as a lot of the restaurant names would show up if not. I figure, most people will know where i mean

I have the same issue as we do not like to drive in the dark. But I do think it will remain light until 8pm or so in May because I remember driving TO restaurants while light and driving home to the hotel in the dark.
But then, many places will not open until 7:30pm for dinner, and some will not open until 8pm.
Franco: Thank you for the correction. I will now repeat: La Strega is in Palagianello. NOT New Jersey!

We have to add this to the list, for now.
Lecce; dessert:
http://www.natalepasticceria.it/
Should we take guesses on how many pounds we are both going to gain on these trips?

<and some will not open until 8pm.>
...and some others not until 8.30, which is even true in North Italy (for my favourite restaurant near Venice for instance, Al Bacaro in Noventa di Piave), and all the more so in the south.
As far as Natale Pasticceria, be sure to skip the unremarkable pastries and stick to the absolutely spectacular gelato.

But Franco, have you not heard the new mandate? Travelers are barred from leaving the city of Lecce without sampling at least one version of the local pastry, pasticciotto. It is sold all over Salento but I did have a scrumptious one at Natale.

Oh, if this is the new law, I'll be sure to comply next time when visiting Lecce! I'm glad it wasn't effective last May, or I wouldn't have known how to sneak around the police road blocks at the city boundaries.
