Padraig, just give it up. Unfortunately Travelme has usually very little to add to any travel thread but rather tends to just pull people up on their remarks and finds malice where there is none - thereby creating it. It's the same old trick on every thread.

If you want to prove me wrong, show your evidence.

Those were not "officials" but actually crooks who were confiscating water and re-selling it elsewhere....

And as to "guidelines" please explain why we have to remove our shoes in US airports yet people flying into the US from europe don't.

Maybe they're afraid of our smelly European feet?

scdreamer,
All international departures from AMS have gate security. In addition, flights to the US on US carriers have an interview process as part of the gate security. There are some podiums set up before the xray/metal detectors. Intra-Schengen departures from AMS have a central security point.

Dukey, when I flew from Heathrow to PHL two weeks ago, all pax at LHR had to remove their shoes before going through security.

At Vienna Airport in April, I had water taken before a second (and unexpected) security check at the gates. I had already gone through one after checking in, and didn't know there'd be a second one after the duty free shops. This also happened to me in Iceland, London and Frankfurt in the last year. But never just at the hetway.

Padraig, the tone of YOUR post was very rude. And you basically abused the poster first by insinuating they were taking the "Leona Hemesly" approach to rules. You can play innocent on that , but its like saying one is taking the "Adolf Hitler" approach to something, it is meant to be insulting!!!

It is clearly a case of pot calling kettle black, and you have some nerve to over react and go on and on, post after post about the " abuse" you suffered.

Lawchick, so you think its ok for Padraig to be the " post police" and call out people who may or may not stray off topic , either on purpose or by accident..the guidelines are not laws, they are not meant to be interupped literally all the time , thats just legalese which does not belong on a board to help each other. .

Thank you Bozama.
I am rather suprised that Lawchick actually told Padraig to drop it and I am stunned that he didn't nail her for it.
I am sorry but I have a hard time with nastiness and tones that are condescending. I call people on it when I read it.
For your information, Lawchick, I have traveled quite a bit and I have and am quite happy to give advice.

Oh, dear.

Context might help:

I see a pattern of julies using the Europe board to advocate that Europeans visit America and that Americans visit South America. That is disregarding the purpose of the forum, and I have challenged it before. Maybe now you will understand my reaction.

But I suspect not, because there is some distance to travel from Leona Helmsley to Adolf Hitler, and you made the leap effortlessly.

Further, I am not playing victim. I said that I did not suffer as a result of brookwood's post. I made an objection to the use of personal abuse, and it is an objection of a general nature.

I've had to remove my shoes when selected for a random security check during the boarding process when flying to the US from CDG.

1. If julies' 'agenda' is to get Americans to visit SA, why would she publicize a negative occurrence there... the confiscation of passengers' water in Lima?

2. What do you think is the motivation behind julies 'agenda?'

I didn't accuse julies of having an agenda. I objected to her posting things in the wrong forum.
