Are Cinque Terre and Amalfi Coast similar?

We are planning to visit both the Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast in May this year, but i am wondering if it is worth it to visit both because from the pictures i have seen they look very similar? How are they different? Should we see both or lose the Cinque Terre and add more time to something else? We were only going to spend two days there.

They are both very scenic. The Amalfi Coast has a lot more things to do. I wouldn't go to both--I'd only go to the Amalfi Coast.

But if you're only planning 2 days in 5 Terre, it shouldn't get boring in that short a time.

They are very different and both are worth a visit. I found Amalfi very upscale and great for swimming and using as a base to see Pompei, Heurculineum and the isle of Capri. We stayed near Positano and had a really marvelous time. The Cinque Terre is more rustic and charming. If you like hiking the walks? between the villages are great. I think the food here is also again more down to earth. We loved both places And if you have the time should see them both.

if you had a choice between the two cities though, which one would you choose if you had 3 days to spend?
