Archaeological digs?

Are there any places in England that allow volunteers to help with organized archaeological digs?

Have no experience with this whatsoever, but have always been interested. Read a story today in a local paper about some folks who recently found a huge hoard of Roman coins somewhere here in England, and my old curiosity flared up again!

J.M. - If you go to this search engine: "http://www.ussc.alltheweb.com/", put in the words "excavation volunteer UK", select "Search for all the words" and initiate the search, you'll get loads of hits (I got 721). Arachaelogical excavations are always looking for volunteers - known in the trade as "slave labor"!

The Council for British Archaeology, http://www.britarch.ac.uk/, is the central coordinating body that lists opportunities for field work.
