Aran Islands v. Clare Island

Has anyone been to both of these locales off the coast of Galway? What is the best choice based on your experience if we only have time for one of these day trips? Anything else we should be sure not to miss in county Galway? I'm a lover of literature and the mythos of this part of Ireland.

I have been on Inis Mean, the largest of the Aran Islands and found it quite interesting, but not overwhelming.Clare Island is largely unknown to most tourists.
If you are interested in Yeats then you might visit Toor Ballylee, near Gort where the poet`s house is open to the public. If you visit Co. Sligo you will find a lot more about Yeats there.
A well-known Irish wit,Oliver St John Gogarty is buried in Co. Galway.I find his epitaph comforting:
"Our friends go with us as we go
Down the long path where beauty wends
Where all we love forever go
So why should we fear to join our friends"
