Arab Museum?

Anyone been? Sure would love to hear about it.

Thanks, Theresa in Detroit

Sure might be helpful to know what city, or even what country.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPS!

London..

Never heard of the one in London, but I've been told that the one in Paris is superb. I only it in pictures and it looks quite marvelous.

I tried to look it up and all I got was the Museum of London website. Perhaps it's an exhibit at the Museum of London?

There's no Arab museum in London.

The Museum of London - thank God - doesn't waste space and money with meaningless witterings about the city's ethnic groups. Under pressure from this absurd government to cater to its fads of the month, it does include a feature on a handful of ethnic minorities (while ignoring those Labour's Scottish gauleiters taken for granted) on its website. But the museum itself is blissfully free of such inanity.

There are frequent specialist exhibitions on London's virtually unparalleled resources of Arab art as specialist shows at the British Library, British Museum and V+A - though even here, political correctness has intruded slightly: you'll find them obsessed with Arabia's Muslim newcomers, and depressingly bereft of anything about the Arab world's (far longer standing) Christian traditions.

The only "Arab Museum" I know of is the Musee de l'Institut du Monde Arabe - but that's in Paris

It's OK but it's more a research centre with one floor of history that's accessible to the public

The windows however are superb especially the control system for regulating the light

And they have a great view and cafe on the roof....

The V&A has galleries of Arabic art.

Leighton House interiors have an Arabic influence. The Arab hall mosiacs are wonderful.

Those are about the only 2 places I can think of in London

There's the Brunei Gallery at SOAS (part of London University): http://www.soas.ac.uk/visitors/galle...i-gallery.html

flann,

I'm trying not to be too offended (gotta have thick skin in Detroit) but I don't think it would be a waste on money to educate people. Whether it's art or culture. My Father's family are from Lebanon and I believe his Father learned his perfect French from the troops stationed in Lebanon back in the day.

mnss, Thanks for the website.

I'll keep looking.

Can always count on flanner to offer a meaningless, utterly stupid political comment about a completely innocent request for information.

Keep up the good work! You are a credit to yourself and your country.
