Aquitaine, basque, midi vs. provence & cote d'azur
 

I have about 2.5 weeks for a leisurly honeymoon.

Would you recommend I stay mainly on the west coast and mountains or head to provence.

If you'll be there between Oct & April, Provence would be the best choice.

If you include the Dordogne, Quercy, Pays Basque, & Pyrenees in your "west coast" itinerary, then there are probably equal interests in both areas you are consiering. If you don't include the Dordogne, then I think there are far more interesting things in the Provence/Cote area. However, you did not mention what your interests are, so I'm using my own interests to judge the two areas.

We've spent 24 weeks in Provence/Cote, and 2 weeks in the Pays Basque, 8 in the Dordogne, and 2 in Quercy since '99.

With 2-1/2 weeks you could easily spend time in both regions.

Well i just got the Fodors 2006 gold guide. It is very good I must say. I am also awaiting the michelin maps, red book and green guides for the areas.

I'd like to plan each day out.

As for interests. I like good food, the ocean/sea, mountains. Nice quiet drives. Quiet places, not too many crowds. Arts, culture, etc. But each area has a bit of all this.

We can do all areas in 2.5 weeks but it seems like it would be a bit of a rush.

I would go to bordeaux, dordogne, pays basque, pyrennees, toulouse, carcasonne.

Or just provence/cote d'azur.

Or bordeux, dordogne, carcasonne and then onto provence.

Then head for Provence, including the Côte d'Azur. With 2-1/2 weeks you can sample the many different areas of the region without hurrying. It will be wonderful!

I am with Underhill. Trying to cram what you are considering into 2.5 weeks is too much in my opinion.
