Aquincum Hotel or Kemspsinski?
Has any one stayed at Aquincum Hotel in Budapest? I sounded like a great hotel with thermal baths and view et al for only $160. It sounded too good to be true. Please post your remarks if you have any info.
Aquincum is not that central, whereas Kempinski is city centre hotel. So depends on what you want - for spa it seems pretty reasonable. If you want to get out and walk around the centre without any hassle, the Kempinski is best and would be regarded as oen of the top 3 hotels in Budapest.

Stayed there 5 years ago. Not central for walking, but not too far out. You can walk to Margaret Island, a huge park across the bridge. Rooms were pleasant. Spa was nice. No complaints.

Thank you Nick and dm for the info on Kempinski. I'll check on the rate for a week there. We do enjoy walking the town and explore on foot.
Do yu have any info about getting tickets for the opera. Is it better to get the tiks before leaving the states? I wasn't successful accessing the online due to the language.
Appreciate it if you have any info on this. tm

Cannot help re opera, but can suggest a restaurant next to Opera House called Belcanto - there the waiters will interrupt your service to sing (very well) a variety of songs. the opera singers themselves also come in and sing. Quite a few years ago since there, but to my knowledge it is still going.

Kempinski concierge will be able to get you tickets, without question, any night you want. The most expensive tickets are around $45, with 25% service charge.

Yes. It is a great hotel in Budapest. The special room rate is only 99 EURO in off season and you can get discounted package offers too.
Just take a look at www.ohb.hu website
Best regards,

Kempinski has better location, but Hotel Aquincum is not a bad starting point for sightseeing tours either! (It is easy to get around by public transport.) By the way, Corinthia (the chain Aquincum belongs to) has just opened a 5-star hotel in downtown Budapest. It is the Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal. It looks great, though its services are not as 'broad' as of Aquincum (it has no thermal pool at the moment).
To book opera tickets online visit http://online.jegymester.hu/index_eng.html
Hope this helps!

Gabor, I guess this site is about sharing experiences and not about self-advertisement...

Just for US citizens, they should check the US Embassy web site regarding both the Corinthia Hotel Aqvincum and the Corinthia Grand Royal Hotel.

Aquincum is too far out and nothing special. There are much better hotels in the center. Kempinski is fine.
