April Weather Amalfi Coast What to Wear

Have to pack tomorrow night. 2 Days in Rome and 5 on the Amalfi Coast - Positano. What will be the weather like.

Shorts - jackets - sweaters - can we swim...please advise thanks

I would not count on swimming and wouldn't pack any shorts. Would definitely take light jacket.

You should pack for spring weather. If you plan to do a lot of walking around, something like a waterproof hoodie or an umbrella is so helpful to have packed if it rains. You definitely need waterproof shoes.

You may experience some nice warm days, and while shorts are not appropriate in Rome you might find them comfortable in Positano if you are doing a lot of walking in the middle of the day up and down hills. But you will certainly need protection against the evening chill, including long sleeves and a jacket so you can enjoy evening strolls or boat rides. Fleece or a down vest is also great if you have it.

Some swimming pools will be open in the posh hotels, and those are heated. A bathing suit is easy to pack if you are staying some place with a heated pool. The sea will be too chilly.

I would err on the side of sufficiently warm clothes (midweight materials), knowing that if you get nice toasty weather in Amalfi you can buy something flimsy if needed. Try to pack light. Lugging a suitcase up those hills and stairs is no fun.

Also, if you tend toward hay fever, pack some over the counter allergy remedies. Rome has a pollen season.
