April or May??
We will be spending 2 weeks in Greece in 2007 and are looking at the April to May time frame. Would love to hear recommendations...early April, late April, early May or late May??? Thanks!

We went in late May which was perfect. The weather was beautiful, no crowds yet, pool water still a bit cool though. Beach weather was perfect. I wouldn't have wanted to go earlier. The evenings on the islands were still a bit cool and windy.

Another vote for late May; I've been twice, mid to late May and agree with all Images2 said. Have a wonderful time; you'll love Greece!

Yet another vote for late May. April is still a bit chilly, as well as there being fewer businesses open then. By late May the water is warm enough for a swim and the villages have come out of hibernation.

Middle to late May.

I have been mid April to mid June. I prefer anytime in May but the last 2 weeks you are more guaranteee of good weather. April has a dampness in the air and can be windy and rainy. May 1st the weather did a complete turnaround and it was sunny and no rain for a month. Another time in the first 2 weeks of May we had a couple of rainy days.

I suspect you are getting tired of hearing May, however if you watch the weather reports on Greece you will see that somewhere around May 15 it's like a switch is turned on and the forcast goes from partly cloudy/showers to "sunny". Late May is warm enough to fully enjoy the beach and and there are just enough tourists around to make things busy but not crowded.

You've probably got the message now that the weather in Greece is better in May than in April :-) However, from a different perspective, Greek Orthodox Easter falls at the same time as Western Easter next year - i.e. 8 April, so you may like to consider going then. I've never been lucky enough to be in Greece at Easter, but I know that for the Greeks, Easter is a much bigger celebration than Christmas, so it's well worth being there. You would need to book early though, as the hotels that are open at that time of year quickly get full and ferries are very busy. =:) |
