April or June in Italy
 

My family and two children (24 and 10) plan on visiting Italy next year for two weeks. We're debating between April or early June. Florence, Venice, CT and Rome (with a side trip to Pompeii) are places we've thought about. Which is a better time frame and is this too ambitious for two weeks???

Absolutely April. June gets hot and the crowds come.

Having been to Italy in April for the past two years, and having loved the weather -- for the most part, anyway (Venice was quite rainy last April) -- that would be my pick. <BR><BR>Too ambitious? You can certainly visit all those places in two weeks but, as I always tell people here, it depends on what you value more: more time in less places, or less time in more places.

We've been twice in early June and had no problems with either heat or crowds. I imagine later in June would not be the same.

I'd much rather deal with a bit o' rain than the crowds beginning to show up in June. One caveat ~ check calendar as you may also want to steer clear of Easter weekend during April.

April-- As June can get sooooooo HOT.<BR><BR>When we did our first trip to Italy, we did Venice,Florence and Rome for 2 weeks- I think if you add in the CT , you will killing yourself and missing out so much that the first 3 cities have to offer....

Everyone says that late June, July is soooo hot, but I'm confused. When I look at the weather, I see the mid 80's, which I don't consider hot. Is everyone called mid 80's really hot, or are all the websites reporting mid 80's wrong?<BR><BR>To me, mid 80's is great, even if it is somewhat humid, I can take it. <BR><BR>So what temperature are we really talking about in late June and early July.... fahrenheit wise?

Been there many times but last april was quite pleasant..Como, Venice Florence. Some lite rain and wind. Avoid May 1 in Europe like the plague, especially this year. Very communist celebration time. capice??????

I have been to Italy early, mid and late June, and never regretted a day of it.<BR><BR>Average temperatures tend to round off the extremes, which is what people (especially those who get hotels without A/C) remember.<BR><BR>The web site www.weatherbase.com is good for data on extremes, and how often they occur.<BR><BR>Rome averages two days per year over 90 in July and 2 in August. Rex,<BR><BR>I think you've hit the nail on the head as to why I don't think that the &quot;heat&quot; of Italy worries me.... I live in Sacramento and as you acurately wrote,<BR>&quot;days over 90 in...Sacramento 22 and 19&quot; and we easily have at least 10 or more days over 100 degrees. Hey, mid to high 80s might seem almost chilly to me. :)
