Looks like Wierzynek is still there in all its glory..mayb a good place for the actual birthday celebration...(and be sure to listen for the famous trumpeter in the St. Mary's Church tower..if I recall, it's every half hour..maybe every hour).

hi,

thanks lads for the continuing tips. yes, i was very attracted by the Francuski, but left it too long, by which time all the deals had gone. perhaps we'll nip in for a drink.

i had a look at the wieznyek website- I'm not sure about a restaurant that boasts Kate Moss as one of its customers! she looks as if she eats no more than the odd lettuce leaf.

I'm hoping to get opera tickets as the main "treat" and as the birthday itself is about a month before we go, we'll probably have a big meal at home. Cornwall has some pretty impressive restaurants, though none that I can think of with the sound of bells every half hour. but I'll certainly consider it, perhaps depending on the exchange rates at the time.

I do like the idea of cocktails on the planty though - where exactly tom is the place you mention?

regards, ann
