My husband and I are planning a trip to parts of Spain and Porugal in April 2008. The month is wide open if that makes a difference. Are there any national/local holidays we should be aware of as we plan our arrival/departure from the U.S.?

Not a National Holiday but Sevilla's Feria de abril is worth a look. Pix on many travel brochures for Sevilla are of that event. Google 'Feria de abril' for dates

This year (2008) Holy Week is in March, so no national holiday here in Spain in April. But 25th of April is a National Holiday in Portugal.

BE aware that Holy Week includes also the Monday after Eastern Sunday. During this week in my experience every thing seems to be full. So make reservation ahead of time.
