If we take the train from Basel to Wengen and stay in Wengen two nights, any pros or cons flying out of Basel or Zurich? Looks like at either airport, the connecting flight is thru Amsterdam, then on to Detroit.

Basel airport is smaller but sometimes more chaotic. Zurich is the bigger airport and trains do run to the airport. From the Basel train station you would need to take either the #50 bus or a taxi to the airport -- the airport bus is fine, has only a few stops but it's not the same as getting by train to the airport.

WeisserTee, this is exactly what I needed to know! I like the idea of fewer/easier connection out of Zurich. Now I need to find accommodations near a train stop in Zürich. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, Hotel AlpenRose in Wengen will be closed from April 19-May 10. ☹️
We plan to be in Wengen two nights April 29 and 30th.
Last night in Zurich on a May 1st, flying home on May 2nd.
Any other suggestions for a hotel in Wengen and Zurich? Our flight out of Zurich is 9:50am, so wed prefer something either close to the airport or train station.

We often stay at the Motel One in Zurich, which is quite nice. Our next stay, though, will be at the Sorell Hotel St. Peter -- supposedly a great hotel, except in summer, as its air conditioning system is quite weak.
Of course, you could also stay at the Hyatt Regency at the Circle in Zurich airport, probably your best bet for a morning flight. I'll be there for a meeting in late October. https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/sw...e-circle/zrhrz

On booking.com I don't see any hotel availability for your two nights in Wengen -- but there are several self-catering chalets available. Expensive though. More hotel availability in Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald. If you want to look down rather than up, go for Grindelwald. Strongly recommend you decide today and make your booking. Dithering will cost you in both availability and rates.

The clock is ticking and our arrival to Basel post river cruise will be April 29.
We will have just three nights in Switzerland before flying home. We decided to make Lauterbrunnen our base for two nights and then Zurich for one night before our trip home.
I would love to hear your suggestions on “must see” sights. Mürren and Trümmelbach Falls were suggested to us. Can those two be seen easily in one day? Wengen is also on the list, depending on weather. We’d love to see the cows with their bells, but with it being early spring, is that even possible? Lake Thun?
I am a bit concerned about walking in the snow without boots. As we start our trip in Amsterdam, with all the luggage nightmare stories at Schiphol, we intend to just take a carry-on and personal item for the two weeks we will be gone…so no room for boots.
I keep reading about the Swiss Rail Pass…would it be worth purchasing for our short visit? Do the trains and buses take credit cards or cash only?
Thanks for your input.
