Appartments in Rome

My husband & I will be spending 3-5 days in Rome this October and would prefer to stay in an appartment vs. a hotel. We'd like a place in the area of the Spanish steps, non-smoking, lift if it is higher than the 2nd floor, washing machine, nice view, safe & nice neighborhood. Any recommendations?

I cannot recommend a specific apartment, but if you go to www.sleepinitaly.com you can search for an apartment at the Piazza di Spagna. They have some nice looking apartments & Fodorites like Sleep in Italy for finding a good place.

You can also look at slowtrav.com for reviews. Another website for rentals is VRBO.com

Second the sleepinitaly recommendation; can't recommend a specific apartment in the area in which you wish to stay as we usually stay in Campo dei Fiori/Via Guilia area.

Yep with Sleep in Italy. Have used them for years and have never been disappointed in either service or apartments.

Thanks! I had found a nice place & seemed to be recommended but the appartments did not require non-smoking; & my allergies become misrealable when I spend much time in a closed up environment with any left-over smoke smell. Not the way I want to spend a vacation to Italy.

sweetjen, I also recommend SleepInItaly. We found an excellent apartment for our stay in May. Non-smoking, too, as I also have allergies to smoke.

Good luck and have a wonderful trip!

While I am a smoker, I never smoke in any apartment or hotel room, whether allowed or not. I don't smoke inside my own house, because yes it stinks. To do so in another's environment is just plain rude.

I would hope that other smokers would also extend this courtesy, but unfortunately they do not.

We just came back from Europe and we stayed in Rome for 7 days, 3 days in Piazza Navona and then in Campo di Fiori, went around the Spanish Steps and Fountain di Trive, too touristy. I would recommend anybody to stay around Piazza Navona over any other place.

Piazza Navona isn't too touristy????

Not during the day if you stay in the streets behind like we did. We were about 4 blocks from the Piazza, actually right by the overrated Pizza Baffetto (yuck), we could walk the noise wasn't too bad. But by The Spanish Steps it was a nightmare to be around, blocks and blocks of people at any time, and we went several times, I can't imagine sleeping or just staying around there. All the big shopping and high scale stores are around there, so there is traffic, Piazza Navona has little traffic.

Jubilada!

I will try to put a report soon, we did so much in these last 8 weeks. We just came back today after a 2 day trip and I'm trying to adjust my clock to Denver time again, back 8 hours!
