App for restaurants/pubs in the the UK?

The last several times that we came to Europe we used the Yelp app to locate restaurants. This has led to some dissatisfaction from my spouse with the quality of meals we've had.. While we do like good food, we view our travel time as the top priority, so we will not generally go too much out of our way to find a restaurant and thus tend to eat where we happen to be when we get hungry--which is generally around 1400 or so. We tend to eat a big breakfast at the hotel, and only eat the two meals a day. We are usually O.K. with pub food as it tends to be a bit quicker than "white table cloth" restaurants, and we dress to tour, not to eat.

We will bring two or three travel guides with us (including a somewhat dated Fodor's) , but would like to know if there is an app or app similar to Yelp but more adjusted to England and Scotland than Yelp. Or if there is not, what do you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Tripadvisor is handy for restaurants as well as hotels. Also Bookatable. I honestly don't know about a pub specific app, though you do see a fair few of the gastropub type pop up on TA anyway.

Eating after 2pm might be an issue though, most pub slow down by then, but you may be lucky. Certainly in big cities it will not be a problem

Trip advisor is fine and what we use but you might prefer something like the time-out app for london

>>Certainly in big cities it will not be a problem<<

It can be a problem in nicer/more upscale restaurants which tend to have set lunch hours ending at maybe 2:30-ish and then dinner seating starts at 5:30 or 6PM . . . Though many of those will offer an afternoon tea.

But if you are talking about cities -- you will find all sorts of places open through the day. In the countryside -- if you want a real "Lunch" type meal you had better start looking before 2PM.

For ratings try www.squaremeal.co.uk and www.opentable.co.uk

Thanks for the "Square Meal" idea. Didn't realize that the UK had Open Table. Presume that at least the latter is an app.

Our dining hours are one reason we end up eating in pubs so much--that and the convenience of having a good pint with our meal.

Open Table it is, then. The Tripadvisor app uses too much data/memory for my poor iPhone.

Thanks everyone

We were turned on to http://www.camra.org.uk/ in a pub in Wales. Their website has a "What Pub" function that links to places featuring real ale, cider, and perry.

You do not say for what operating system. So I added a range:
