Apartments in Rome you have rented and liked
 

Hi All,
I am looking for specific apartment recommendations in Rome. I will be traveling with my husband in Sep. We are first time visitors to Rome. We will be staying for 4 nights. We are looking for a clean apartment in a lively neighborhood with easy access to eating places, markets etc. Also we would like to be able to walk to most sights (longish walks ok). We hope to spend around 100 Euros/night.

I have looked at airbb, vrbo, sleepinitaly. Basically I am spoilt for choices (and overwhelmed) and would love to get specific recommendations.

We stayed at this apartment in April of 2014. Not sure of the rate for your dates.

It was in a great location and was quite nice. The only minus was that it was a bit dark inside. While the pictures show it to be fairly light and bright, we didn't think it was nearly that light.

I will say that September is a fairly expensive time to visit Rome and 100 euros a night is going to be very hard to come by; you may need to up your budget.

Try looking at the agency RomeLoft if you already haven't. Plug in your dates and look at their budget offerings. I've had good experiences with the agency, although I've never rented an apartment as cheap as what you are looking for.

Thanks! Well I decided on the budget after looking at a few apartments. We can increase if necessary. That is the reason I was seeking specific recommendations.

108288 - has all the lights turned on in every picture = dark and I didn't notice many windows.

201744 - all one room, miniscule kitchen, place to eat is small and looks uncomfortable and there only seems to be 1 casual chair to sit on.

105547 - looks nice but I am not sure Trastevere is "centrally located" in my 2 cents view. But that's me.

DebitNM, thank you so much for taking the trouble to look and give me feedback. I guess you can be misguided by the reviews in a site like VRBO where they might be posting only positive ones.

It's not they misguide - they simply try to make the apartments looks as good as possible. It's kind of like when you go to real estate Open House. They have all the lights on, especially if there isn't a lot of natural light.

We have rented around a dozen or more different apartments and it gets a bit easier once you have gotten the hang of it. And it always helps to have an extra eye look.

I have asked for input here on apartments and folks are generally great about looking and seeing things that I might have missed.

We rented one apartment in Barcelona and didn't give it the best review because there were minor but annoying issues. The rental agency [not VRBO or one like it, a REAL agency] never published it on website. No surprise...

I've stayed in an apartment on every trip to Rome. The two I liked best are both with Sleep In Italy.

I looked at the approximate street location of the Trastevere apartment (someone mentioned a corner bar so I looked that up) and it's not a bad location if you are willing to do a bit more walking than some others would be willing to do, and especially good if you are willing to take a moment to learn the bus/tram system, because then you can easily get anyplace you want to go in Rome.

Sandralist, We love walking! So maybe that one is still an option.

Caveat - This was many years ago, but I am mentioning it because the agency still seems to get good marks here. While my budget has expanded since then, I would rent with realrome.com again in a minute. They are very easy to deal with. Okay, here goes:

I stayed in a little studio with my sister on via dei Cappellari. There are two in the building and both should be within your budget. We loved the location on this relatively quiet street off Campo de Fiori. Apartment was tiny and basic but neat as a pin.

P.S. I like the location of your Trastevere apartment above. I am a big walker and would not mind that area at all.

We stayed here a week or two ago and thought it was great: www.vrbo.com/430233. We walked into and out of the historic center a few times (and to Castle Sant'Angelo and the Vatican), and we also used the nearby metro station a few times.

Hi Margo, Thanks for the suggestion - I liked the apartment a lot but it was booked. The owner had another one available so I made a reservation for that. Excited!

Now if anyone has suggestions for Florence...?
