Apartments in Nice
 

Hi, looking for a 2 BR apt in Nice in May. Considering the two below but looking for advice on which one is better especially from someone who might be familiar with the locations, building etc. Want something close to a bus stop.

Both are through Go-Nice, anyone have any experience with this agency?
Le Grimaldi is slightly more but not by much. Both have elevators & a/c though Le Grimaldi does not have a/c in the living room. Do you think that is important given that we will be there in early May? Not sure of the Capitol Building, does not seem well-kept somehow but I could be wrong.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

At a quick glance, Le Grimaldi looks nicer, with more light and space. I also think the Grimaldi location is better, unless you think you would be on the beach all day (the beach is all grey pebbles).

You probably don't want more options but we stayed in a nice 2 bedroom apartment in Nice for a week over Christmas a few years ago. Here is the link, happy to answer any questions. The one we stayed in was Pastorelli.

Thanks KayF, I am always looking until I make a decision, that website sure does have a lot of 2 BR apts so will definitely check it out. Regrding the Pastorell, how far was it from the Promenade? How were the room sizes? Was it convenient to a bus stop?

I like the Grimaldi just because it seems brighter and I prefer that location. Lucky you - I love Nice.

I prefer the sun filled Grimaldi, with a dryer and an extra half bath, plus it looks like it's nicely furnished.

Thank you for the opinions, they really do help! I really like the inside look of the Grimaldi too but I am a sucker for a sea view! I just love waking up and having my morning tea with a view of the water - such a wonderful way to start the day!
That being said, the 2nd BR with the bunk beds does not look great. Another one that is available is http://www.vrbo.com/291124, can you take a look at that one too?

Hi excited-confused, the Pastorelli apartment was about 10 mins walk to the main bus station, which is right next to the Old Town. It was about 5 mins walk to the main street that runs from the beach up to the train station area and I think about 20 mins walk to the promenade. We didn't use public transport at all within Nice itself, just walked everywhere but we did a lot of day trips, by bus or train. We found public transport pretty easy to use and cheap too. The tourist office gave us some bus timetables but we had to specify which routes we wanted.

As far as room sizes, the lounge room was fairly big with kitchen and dining area in the same space. The bedroom with tiny balcony and queen bed was average size, not small but not really big. The other bedroom had twin beds and we didn't use that - except to put clothes in. There was a small lift and also the stairs of course and a pizza/pasta restaurant on the next corner where we got takeaway the night we arrived and then ate there another night. The only thing we had trouble with was the microwave/convection oven which we couldn't understand. There was no normal oven. There was a Picard store on the same street which we tried for a dinner, they sell frozen meals, desserts etc.

Hope that helps. I had a quick look at the VRBO apartment you listed above and thought it looked OK, not great. We loved the Pastorelli apartment, I could have happily lived there.

Hi Kayf, thanks so much for the information, unfortunately the 3 day rental for all the apts on that website is pretty high - so out of our budget I'm afraid! Given that, I am leaning towards the Grimaldi, does anyone think not having a/c in the living room in May could be a problem?

I don't know but I don't think not having a/c in May will be a problem. I like the Grimaldi but when we rented we had a balcony and we loved sitting there with a glass of wine. We found our two bedroom at homelidays.com

Please let me know opinions as I have to decide on Le Grimaldi by tomorrow. I would really love a view of the water but this seems a little far to wall to everywhere.

Judging by the map on the link it's a long way to anywhere. Not what I would choose. And just about the aircon, Europeans don't treat it as a must, like Americans. It's just not necessary most of the time. Open the windows.

The new apartment is a very long walk to most of the places you would want to see.
The Grimaldi apartment would be my choice.
Air conditioning is not a factor at that time

Sent in my booking form for the Grimaldi finally! Thanks everyone for your input, it really did help to make up my mind. Not used to renting apartments for vacations so have my fingers crossed!
With Go-Nice, you collect your keys at the airport which is good, but their rep does not walk you through the apt, appliances etc so hopefully we can figure it all out. Their office is not far from the apt so I am sure we can always ask for help if necessary.

We rented a stunning 3 bdrm in Nice from Owners Direct. You obviously don't need that much space so I'm not sending the link but there are lots of 2 bdrms as well.

Thanks but since I have already sent in the deposit, I am not even going to check! (though I am very tempted).

We rented through Go-Nice in December 2010 and were very happy with both the apartment (great location) and the service. A real plus is that you can use a credit card with Go-Nice.
