Apartments in Lisbon-Neighbouhood?

We are looking into an apartment rental whilst in Lisbon as opposed to hotel. Question being what might be a good neighborhood to isolate my searching to? Looking for good, safer locations and quieter is the top of the list ( ie not above a nightclub or next to a metro station ) ;)

Thanks in advance.

Look in Baixa, Chiado, Barrio Alto.

If you want to avoid noise, you need to be careful where you rent in the most touristy areas, which are basically Baixa, Chiado and Barrio Alto. Best way to do this, I think, is to take the address of a rental and do a google search for hotels very close to that address. Read reviews for those hotels (will tell you about safety too).

Were it me returning to Lisbon, I would rent an apartment in the area of Praca do Principe Real rather than one of those other areas. I had a good experience renting from the agency Rent-4-Days.

I agree with Sandralist, Principe Real is a great residential neighborhood. I would also look in Campo d'Ourique, near the Basilica of Estrella and the Park of the same name.

Bairro Alto would not be my choice, Baixa and Chiado would be a bit better, but they are much more where the action is than either of the two neighborhoods I mentioned.

I stayed in a hotel in the Chiado and the street "musician" right outside made it extremely noisy, and not in a good way. This would not apply to every location in the neighborhood, though, obviously.
