Be careful with Salita di Monte del Gallo Red - it is *not* close to Trastevere, Campo de' Fiori and Piazza Navona. Walking distance perhaps - if you want to walk 30 minutes. And public transportation in that area is quite limited and, if I remember correctly, stops at about 9:00 p.m.
I'd also be careful with the apartment right on Campo de Fiori, which is "party central" for many young Italians as well as Americans studying in Rome. "Party central" as in loud and drunk.

We stayed in San Guiliano for 3 nights last year and were quite pleased.
Pros:
The location is fantastic. Its definitely away from the touristy area, off a small road thats more of an alleyway, but yet its about five minutes from Piazza Navona. There are some great cafes and restaurants nearby. The bed and apartment in general is comfortable and cozy. The price is fantastic given its location.
Cons:
Its on the ground floor so it can get a little noisy at night. I always pack a mini fan (for air circulation and noise) so it wasn't a problem. The bathroom is tiny, and the tv didn't work all that great (didn't bother me but DH was a little annoyed as he likes to watch tv before going to bed).
Overall I would recommend it, as the price is unbeatable for the location.

geeper, I used sleepinitaly.com and had absolutely no problems. I believe I prepaid, or at least put down a downpayment. They responded to my e-mail correspondence very quickly. All in all we were very happy with the whole experience and wouldn't hesitate to say in the apartment or use sleepinitaly.com again.
You may want to do a search on sleepinitaly on this board, as they are quite popular on here.
Good luck!

Hi geeper,
We stayed in Altoviti Big in June. I think the difference between that and Altoviti may be the view; we had two large windows overlooking the street.
The furniture looks the same. It was clean and we liked the location. I would recommend it.
We had a wee problem with obtaining the key because we arrived on June 2, a holiday, and the owner did not answer his phone as was the plan. We finally worked it out with the angel driver of Limoservicerome who perservered and found the man with the key. Lesson learned was to be certain you have a weekend phone number for Sleepinitaly.

Judi,
Does look similar. Interesting. There are two listings. One for Altoviti and one for Altoviti BIG. Either the same peopel own both and have furnished them the same or they are the same apartment, although different prices. Interesting.

geeper,I asked Giulia about that and she said both apartments are owned by the same person and he furnished them much the same. As I said, I believe Altoviti Big must have a better view.
We spent time looking out the windows watching the waltz of the motorcycles in the traffic. BTW, with the windows closed the traffic noise was negligible.
We had originally booked an apartment in Trastevere but were happy to end up where we were.
