Apartment rental in Rome, Italy without a living room or couch

We have been looking at apartment rentals through VRBO. This is our first trip to Rome, Italy. Some show basic units without a living room and or couch. Some postings just show a bed with a dining chair or something similar. Is there anyone out there that has rented a unit like this and regretted it. If we spend all day sight seeing and just need somewhere to sleep, is that all we need? What are the pro and cons for these small units. Saving money on rentals is one thing but being comfortable is important also. We are looking to book something soon and any recommendations will be very helpful.

Thank you,
David

Chill out! The pro is that you'll be saving money. The con is that you won't have a couch to sit on

What kind of rates are you looking at? When are you traveling to Rome? What area are you hoping to stay in? We find an outdoor space attached to the place we stay is just essential for us. A room with just a bed seems claustrophobic to us (and that of course is just us). We found on our trip this year that we enjoyed getting out in the morning on some days (the really warm days), returning for some down time mid day and then enjoying the vibrant night life. We find it is too exhausting to leave in the morning and not return until after supper, which is quite late in Rome. Again, that is just us. We loved the place we stayed at last year and this year.

The Domus Julia, sister to the next door Hotel Julia, has nice units where we stayed. You can have a large bedroom and en suite bath. Your room opens to a dining room/kitchen area which you share with one other room. It is a nice set-up. Don't know about a couch.

It is on a releatively small and quiet street, near the Spanish Steps and Via Condotti (sp?). A great location.

Our room rate included a very nice breakfast buffet at next door Hotel Julia's lovely breakfast room.

What is the point of an apartment without a living room and sofa - you may a well stay in a hotel and get the benefits.

I would pay more and get a unit with a couch and dining table. Money is an important consideration but not at (or near) the top of the list. Location, space, and comfort all trump costs - IMHO. It IS a vacation after all - treat yourself a little.
