Apartment for 2 suggestions

Hi all. I'm taking my mom (66 yrs old) to Paris in late May and am looking for lodging suggestions. I'm thinking apartment - I love my mom but a week together in a hotel room has the potential for disaster! I've always stayed in the 7th near the Luxembourg Gardens and would like to stay in the same general area, but it's not a deal breaker. I'd love to hear suggestions for properties you've liked. Thanks!

Sounds like you are talking about a two bedroom apartment, rather than a one bedroom with a sleep sofa in the living room. We stayed in a nice one on the Isle de la Cite a couple of years ago. There are some stairs, though, in case she has trouble with those. http://www.vrbo.com/171773

Depending on your mutual likes, and your budget of course, you might prefer something a bit further out. We stayed this year in a studio in the 11th near Oberkamph, and found it lively and interesting.

Thanks nukesafe. The Isle de la Cite one looks perfect. On what floor was it? Mom's in good health but I don't want to push it!

Hi

It's the first floor. I can't see any reference to aironditioning or heating (the wood fireplace is "only decoritif") facilities in the apartment. This may be an issue for you.

Remember, "first" European floor is "second" US floor, so there are some stairs to climb. We were there in May, from the 15th to 31st, and there was no need for either heating or air conditioning.

One minor thing that was a bother. Even though there was wifi in the apartment, our cell phones would not work. The walls in those old stone buildings around Notre Dame are so thick the signal would not penetrate. We had to go out into the courtyard to call.

My husband & i are going in June and have been finding AirB&B a fantastic web site for renting whole apartments or even real B&B's with breakfast. Worth a look.

I just stayed in a marvelous apartment in the 14th which was less than a 10-minute walk to the Luxembourg:
www.vrbo.com/209147. Read my review on the site for more comments.

Even though it's a one-bedroom, the living room is quite large and has a very comfortable pull-out king-sized sofa. A friend stayed with me the first two weeks and my son was there for the third. It worked out beautifully and it's much more economical than
other districts. I'm 75, so your Mom is a kid as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know a 2 BR but your criteria are a little confusing as the 7th arr. isn't near the Luxembourg Gardens. So did you mean you really were staying in the 6th and that is the general area you like? The 7th arr is over near the Eiffel Tower/Ecole Militaire. Sure, it extends to rue de Sevres on the east, but I wouldn't call that near Luxembourg Gardens. But if you do and that is the area you want, you might say what metro stop you were near as it is confusing.

Thanks everybody. Christina, my error, you're right, I meant the 6th. That's what I get for typing on my phone! A second bedroom isn't a necessity, my mom actually sleeps on the sofa at home (who knows?!) but a little personal space will definately be nice for both of us.

Anyone else have a suggestion?

We used Paris Perfect. They are easy to work with and their apts are very nice. They have a local office in the 7th which is nice to have access to.

The Luberon apt is in the 5th (but close to the 6th). One bedroom sleeps two.

The Colombard apt sleeps up to 3; queen bed plus pull out sofa bed. This is also in the 5th but almost in the 6th. The Seyssel is also a one bedroom that sleeps two....not sure if you just want multiple roome or multiple bedrooms.

I'm staying here next year although it's not in your preferred area. But it has two bedrooms & is well located for lots of great attractions and is apparently very comfortable(friends stayed there this year & recommended it). It's Australian-owned with an onsite manager in Paris.

Thanks everyone. Has anyone ever heard of a rental company Go with Oh? They responded to a twitter response and seem very attentive but are based out of Spain which concerns me.
