Apartment base Florence- anyone familiar with these areas?
 

Looking to stay one week in Florence apartment and plan on several day trips by train. Have possible interest in apartments seen on vrbo.com in Via Del Giglio or another near the Ponte Vecchio

Debating whether it's better to be located closer to the train station ( Via Del Giglio) because of day trips or it's not that big a deal to be located further away. Any information about Via Del Giglio area?

Any recommendations for other Florence apartments welcomed.

We're a couple with a budget of around 700 Euros weekly rent. Thanks

Everything in central Florence is very walkable. The walk from the Ponte Vecchio to the train station is a pleasant stroll which will only be lengthy if you indulge in window shopping.

If you are dragging tons of bags behind you I'd take a cab instead of walking but otherwise you'll be fine.

I've stayed on via del Giglio. It's about halfway between the train station and Duomo and was a not very busy side street because it runs into San Lorenzo at the end so isn't a convenient through street. A short walk to the Duomo/San Lorenzo, but nothing in the center of florence is very far. The area around Ponte Vecchio is bit noisey/busy, but it would depend on exactly where the other apartment is as some areas around the Ponte Vechhio have lots of traffic.

What day trips are you planning by train? Many areas around Florence are better accessed by bus.

We stayed on Via del Giglio and it's close-in and handy. I'd go for that one.

Thanks all- was a bit worried that Via del Giglio might have been too noisy or undesirable because of proximity to train station. Planning on day trips to Bologna ( husband wants to visit Ducati museum!) and possibly San Gimignano, Lucca, Pisa, Pistoia Are these better visited by bus?( have been to Sienna, Venice, Rome previously)

Bologna, Pisa, Pistoia by train; Lucca by train or bus; San Gimignano by bus. The bus stations are near the train station.
