Apartment 59 rue St André des Arts
Has anyone stayed here? Thinking of booking for one month late 2010 or Spring 2011.
looking for a super area-convenient to shops and restaurants. with A/C. with eleavator with washer and dryer , French tall windows with a balcony and a view or garden table and of course a super deal too. (Paris) |
I assume you are arware that St André des Arts is the connecting rue between Place St. Michel and St. Germain des Prés. Foot traffic is very high on this narrow street. This is the heart of the 6th.

We stayed in an apt. there last spring and were delighted with the area. Very convenient transportation options, the street is mainly pedestrian but we were not at all bothered by noise. The are 2 laundromats ( we had a washer/dryer in the apt but they take forever to do a load) in walking distance, 2 supermarkets and several boulangeries. Lots of good, moderate priced restaurants too. There is also an internet cafe along one of the side streets. It's an easy walk to the isles and Bastille, if you don't feel like busing or taking the metro.

Can you provide a link to the apartment? We rented once on rue St Andre des Arts and I cannot remember the address but would recognize the apartment. We liked the area a lot.
|
I can't retrace the link. I looked at many in the past few months. The owner is Carpon. Thanks for the laundromat tip too. Will be in a hotel this Sept and may need it.

I don't know what company that apartment is with. But, now that you've mentioned that the owner is Capron, I think another fodorite had that apartment and really liked it. Whoever it was who wrote about an apartment on that street, other than the very popular #122 with VIP, really liked both the apartment and the area.
I had #122 with VIP, on the same street, next door to the movie theater, but I don't remember the name of the owner as I never spoke with her. I have stayed on that street before and have been staying in that neighborhood regularly since the early 80s. The street is fine and I had no major noise problems even though the bedroom and living room to the apartment faced the street. The street is very narrow, only one vehicle wide and heads one- way going east. Since you plan to go in the spring, which is when I usually go too, there shouldn't be a problem with staying on that street. In summer, when it's hot and windows have to be kept open, if there's no air conditioning, then it could be noisy. I just got back from staying at my Parisian friend's apartment in the 10th and thank goodness the bedroom faced the back of the apartment as it was very noisy in the living room that faced the street. However, he lives on a bigger street than rue St.Andres des Arts. So, if I were you, I'd go for it. If you want to read about that neighborhood, I've written a detailed report on it under the thread name of "Guenmai's Paris Apartment Rental Experience", I think it's entitled. Happy Travels! |
I just noticed that you want a balcony with a view and a dryer. You're not going to get a view on rue St.Andres des Arts and I personally haven't noticed any apartment buildings with balconies. As for getting a dryer, good luck.
If you do get a dryer it could be one of those machines where the washer and dryer are the same machine. They take forever to dry clothes. I had one in the apartment that I rent regularly in Bangkok and if I could have found a laundromat, I would have taken my clothes to it to use a proper dryer. At least, in Paris, there are two laundromats near rue St. Andres des Arts which are talked about on my above-mentioned thread. Happy Travels! |
Here's an apartment owned by a Francine Carpon. Not sure if that is the one you were looking at:

That's the one that another fodorite stayed in and loved. I remember because it had a piano. I had considered it for August since the price was quite reduced for that month. Happy Travels!

Thanks for you thoughtful replys. I have emailed FC to see what the condo looks like. I have allergies. Thanks for the link as I would not stay in a pet friendly hotel or condo.
any anti pet suggestions? |
