Au contraire to the person who claims there's no such thing as smoke free eating in Europe. The Rick Steves web site has all kinds of non smoking listings, and Sandra Gustafson highlights smoke free eateries in all of here "Cheap Eats" books. You just have to do your homework and probably be content with less than five star meals, which is not a problem for most budget travelers anyway.

I ate at one of Rick Steves non smoking restaurants in Paris. There were several Americans smoking. They were far enough away that it didn't bother me but be forewarned that Non-smoking in Paris doesn't mean much. BTW, the meal was very good.
