ANZAC Day

We are off to Turkey in a couple of days and expect to attend the ANZAC Day ceremony in Gallipoli. Could anybody who has attended please comment on appropriate attire for the day? Unless it is essential I dont want to cart a suit around as that would probably be the only time that I would wear it.

Hmmmm, I have only ever been to Remembrance Day ceremonies in Canada and London so haven't been to Gallipoli. I find that the soldiers usually wear suits but that spectators wear just about anything. I think your presence is what counts. If it were up to me, I would wear sombre but smart casual - maybe a navy blue sweater?

There is nobody more patriotic or more solemn than the Australians during ANZAC Day. They remember their soliders more than the Americans or the British. I have been to the US on Memorial Day and Veterans Day and it does not compare with ANZAC Day in Australia. TV news in Australia remind people of Gallipoli.

The TV shows that I saw last year on ANZAC Day showed that most people did not wear suits except for the old soliders. If you are a man, you could bring a necktie and shirt. This is not heavy at all.

I have heard from people who've been there and seen on TV that most people wear warm ( pretty cold there at that hour of the morning) smart casual gear. People in jeans too, but they were there to be respectful, so no-one minded! Wish I could go with you !

Just be there !!! A suit, a pair of jeans and a jumper, whatever...just be there! Its a pigrimage that every Aussie should make.
